Act Or Explain?
At some point, you either act or you explain. Many aspiring actors say they want to move forward, but instead of taking action, they build detailed explanations about why they can’t. They explain why the timing isn’t right, why their circumstances are difficult, or why they’re not ready yet. Over time, they become aligned with that story, reinforcing it every time someone asks about their plans.
In this video, Brian Timoney breaks down the difference between acting and explaining. He explains how people who are not moving forward often become committed to the narrative of why they can’t pursue becoming a professional actor. In contrast, those who decide to act begin explaining something very different — what they are actually doing to make progress. The shift from justification to action changes everything. Instead of defending limitations, they start describing movement, growth, and commitment.
This video is especially relevant for actors who feel stuck and recognise they may be repeating the same explanations instead of taking steps forward.
