Deborah Barnes — Ultimate Acting Programme graduate

A year ago, I could not call myself an actor and I hadn't really done any acting. I'm now an actor with an agent a year later. Like what more could you ask for?

Hi, my name's Deborah Barnes and I recently completed the Ultimate Acting Course with Brian Timoney.

Brian's course definitely came with amazing reviews. It was that I had considered for actually a couple of years before I took the plunge to actually go on the course. The fact that you can become an actor of a very high level at the end of it, was really appealing to me.

Brian is very professional. He really does push you to get the best out of you. He is hugely intuitive and will hone in on your weaknesses and strengths.

For me personally, it was little baby steps. It was all very new to me. It was just these little building blocks of confidence.

And I was just gradually adding to them as the months went on. One of my favourites was definitely doing the showreel because from the minute I got the script I loved the character. I was able to really delve into her.

I loved working with my fellow actor. Probably for me, the moment that I felt like, oh, yes, I'm acting, I'm actually doing this, I can do this. I felt like I had some confidence.

Everything Brian had taught us through the months leading up to that, it was that point where, oh yeah, you know what? This is, this is what it's all about. I remember being on set and just thinking, oh wow like I'm here, I'm doing this.

This is real. It really gave me, and all my classmates, a safe space to be able to express ourselves in a way I think that a lot of us maybe didn't feel able to before or didn't know we had it in us to do, which is lovely really. If you are willing to put the work in and you're committed to becoming an actor, then a hundred percent, you should do it.

I think just take that leap and just go for it really, 'cause it'll definitely pay off.

So, my name is Brett now before acting I worked in many jobs. So I was like a bus driver worked in the hospital. I currently working construction.

I did someone-on-ones with him originally. To see if I could actually do it went on an attitude Express did as many lockdown classes did a lot of mini attitudes as well. And then I'll just apply for the ultimate my goal in life just to be an actor.

The dream was to have an impact on someone's life to change their life for the good and I've already completed the dream because the moment I got an agent. I had people hollering me going you're the definition of hard work. You've proved to me that hard work you can get what you want and I have to take credit for that.

But I also have to find Brian for that. He motivated me into going on to the course. He motivated me every week to work harder and harder and you always push me to get the best out of me.

Brian is very knowledgeable in the industry. He knows exactly what people are looking for. He's constantly pushing you to the point where he wants you to be part of the 1% Every lesson every class.

I went to it was always here and there are times when you feel like you're not doing enough for you're not you don't feel like you're you getting anywhere. Just have to trust the process because that's just your own self doubt. I remember the last scene.

I did of it the last ever take we started off and Brian stopped it before I knew it. We were redoing the scene and I've never felt a scene go so quick in my life. It was like a blinked and it was over not one part of that scene.

Did I think about the lines? About the circumstances about anything all I can remember was being this guy. He was the pleated angry pissed off with life.

He was able to make the scene the best it was just by winding me up and I didn't even need to think about anything else. He showed me that day that you can play anything when I did that scene with him. It finally clicked in my head what I have to do now.

I got off stage after the Showcase and for was allowed enough. me that all I was in my head was like me man, I think of oh when I went into the room there was a few agents that chatted to me in the room at the time and there was a few that offered me they wanted me there and then like they said look we've got contracts. sign for me the agent that signed with she was like you were the standout performance quite a few of the agents said the same thing to me.

It was only at that moment. Did I really realize that all the years were was worth it that everything I went through in that year and everything. I've gone up to in my whole life all the pain the suffering all the hard work the tired the late night.

It was worth it without Brian there would be even though Brittany Hill in terms of I would never have had the night ahead without Brian. He improved me a lot in terms of being more and perfect towards things understanding more and being more open-minded. He made me a better man.

I would say you made me a better person and a better father and this what he did I never used to be able to cry and these infectious and that's what I mean. Like I actually hated him for that because now when I start talking about stuff, I really like getting to the emotional things if I'm doing like a dramatic scene or a scene with where it's got to be a bit more emotional. I'm able to really trigger into the past without affected me up here.

It just affects my performance and without Brian that wouldn't be possible. He isn't just a wonderful teacher. He's a great mentor a hand on heart would say anyone that.

Wants to do his course just don't question yourself. Just do it. I know people always worry about money and stuff like that, but you'll make more money.

just do it because you don't want to live your life and look back on your life and regret and ask yourself. What if that happened or what if I took the chance just take it because if I've learned anything in life, it's risks are the best thing to do in life.

I would've never, ever been comfortable on a set. I would've known nothing. I would've probably been fired the first day.

And, now I actually have confidence that if I was on a set, I would know what to expect. And, I would know how to act on set and how to deliver a performance and how to prepare for the performance, and I'm a lot more comfortable. And, it's only because of this ultimate acting program.

I would've had no idea before, just clueless. Hi, my name is Suzanne Ocean and I recently completed Brian Timony's Ultimate Acting Program. I did a lot of research on who I wanted to learn acting from.

Ultimately, I decided on Brian's program, because he seemed to have so much experience, so many years of experience teaching method acting. And, I went to the three day bootcamp first. It was three days in person and Brian really covered so much.

It was just like really taught us a lot of information in those three days and gave us a good preview of what his program was. I think that really helped and also helped set expectations for the program and the high level of commitment and dedication that Brian requires on his program. We could learn acting, learn the business, we were able to perform a showcase in front of a live audience and casting directors.

So, we had something to show. We were able to have the chance to find an agent and sign up with an agent. I mean, it was just the entire everything was in one program.

And, I thought that was valuable to have everything in one year. It was amazing. It's not just information.

It's not just learning how to act. He takes it a step above that. It's really becoming an artist.

One of the best parts about the program, I think, is the show reel that we were able to film. It's such an incredible experience. It's, you're actually on set, we're filming a short reel.

It's a completely different experience than just rehearsing a scene. So, giving us that experience is invaluable. So, for anybody who is on the fence or considering this, I would say, don't think about it anymore.

Just absolutely commit to it. It is 100% worth it. If it's your dream, nothing compares to that.

You have to do it. You have to do it. It's a thousand percent worth it.

Rhys Beech — Ultimate Acting Programme graduate

After the course, I realized how bundled up, knotted, I got myself tied up but obviously once we'd gone through it with Brian and he shows you how to kind of loosen up and have fun, that was a change, it was mainly to really experience things and trust ourselves, which I don't think... I definitely didn't have that before the program, definitely not. Hi, I'm Rhys

Beech and I was in the one year ultimate acting program at Brian Timoney Actors' Studio, London. I went on the bootcamp to kind of test it out before I went on the program, before I did anything and it was a three-day intensive training course, if you like, a bit of an introduction to the method. Once I joined the program, it was very, very much like the doubts went away, the money doesn't matter, it all becomes passion and it all becomes...

I don't know, you just feel more at home there than anywhere else and you build this family, you build this thing with people, where as strange as it sounds with acting, you can be who you are and you can express things and just be completely honest. The method is known for, wrongly really but it's known for people staying in character, which not everyone does, a lot of people actually didn't like to do that. Brian's methods was teaching you how to...

you could seamlessly go in and out of character. Every exercise in the year was focused on helping you grow your imagination and helping you to believe in those imaginary circumstances to the point where you could live in those imaginary circumstances as the character, seamlessly. Brian brings you in and kinda treats you even though it's a professional atmosphere and I've thought of him quite honestly, like the father figure with regards to what we're doing and you become as free as you were when you were a kid, he teaches you that whatever you're doing you're safe and to trust yourself.

That really made everyone feel at home. If you have that little voice constantly saying, "Do you know what, I can see myself in that TV show," or "I can see myself doing a stage production," do it. At the end of the day, you've only got one life, why would you waste it doing something that you don't enjoy when you wanna be an actor or an actress?

Charlotte Coleman — Ultimate Acting Programme graduate

So Brands ultimate acting course totally transformed my acting the Brian timony method is really the only one I'd want to follow he's brilliant and I've been getting auditions. I've been having positive feedback and none of this would have happened if I hadn't participated in the ultimate acting program. Hi, I'm Charlotte Coleman.

I'm an actor. But before I went to Grant him and he's active Studio. My main job was a presenter.

I did lots of random presenting jobs from when I was younger. I was looking online for different acting courses and I saw Brian timony. He wasn't doing anything online at that point.

I was living in China which is why I wanted to do something online and then lockdown happened and Brian started his lockdown intensive which are now known as the timony method intensives and it was brilliant. It really opened my eyes to what I needed to do it gave you a really good foundation of the different techniques you needed and it gave you a real insight into the method and his version of the method and it was the New way I thought right. That is what I want to study how he teaches when we're in his classes as well.

We learned movement via Plastics. So you really learn how to move your whole body which helps when you want to Move and the physicality of characters. We had Voice work, which was obviously you're speaking a lot when you're acting and if you're on stage you need to project and that was brilliant and even dipped into mask work with him, which was a new thing for me.

I'd never heard of and basically would put on these masks and it was extraordinary what you would more into with these masks on because metaphorically speaking we can wear a mask as people in public. We might be very different in private and it is amazing. Just putting on these masks how your physicality changes and your voice changes and it really helps you think about getting into a character and how they might move how they might speak how different it is to yourself.

He teaches you to be in the moment to really internalize your characters to see through your characters eyes, and really just be when it comes to acting you want to act on impulse and he gives you the confidence he calls it green lighting to act on that impulse. He'll also tell you if he thought you Wanted to act in an impulse and you didn't and you're like yes, I basically say you wanted to walk towards a table. He knew that but you didn't do it what's brilliant about the ultimate acting program also is that you have a showcase at the end of it.

You've already got your showreel you filmed a really high-class showreel but you have to Showcase where Agents come to and casting directors if you're not quite sure if you want to do this training do not think anymore you've got to do it. I'm so pleased. I'm did it if you're on the fence jump off the fence and jump into the studio, Brian and Natalie are amazing.

They make you feel so comfortable. They're really insightful and how you're feeling and I had somebody on our course that was a little bit worried. They didn't have the confidence.

They didn't think they could do it and he was like you can do it. Everyone can do it and he teaches you way around that. You shouldn't go anywhere else because this act just you know, really sets you on the right path for authentic acting for being in the moment and starting your career off them.

The right path has been so insightful. It was such a fantastic experience. It's

If I could do the course all over again, I absolutely would the best decision. I've probably made ever it was completely worth the money the time all of the hard work that went into it. I feel like a different person after doing it and the best thing about it is that you can do the short course online with Brian first.

To kind of get a taster for it and kind of dip your feet in before you Dive Right In but it was so worth it and I would really recommend to anyone I spoke to I'm Bethany and I took part and Brian's ultimate acting course from 2020 to 2021 the way that he teaches are just so different to other teachers that I've been taught by he's very much kind of makes you make your own decisions. And forces you to be independent in your own thinking and creativity. He kind of teaches you by making you do things and thinking about it.

When you get out there to the industry, you're not kind of relying on another person to make your decisions or to think of ideas for you. You have to take responsibility for your own actions and your own creative choices. It brings out the creativity in you the confidence in you to go and then do it by yourself.

He gives you all these tools that you learn with him and go through with him that you can then use afterwards for like ever at the end of the course. We have a showcase where agents are invited in class and directors and I actually secured an agent who came to watch us at the Showcase and since then I've had a few self tapes to film being invites any been a month since we left. So yeah, it's just really exciting and I'm really looking forward to just going and starting this new chapter in my life.

My favourite part of the course was probably filming the showreel so as part of the Course a writer writes a script based on you and a partner and then you feel my own location with a professional crew directed by Brian and you then can use that afterwards to kind of get agents or turn to casting directors as kind of a sample of your work. I think the biggest thing that I've improved is my confidence just from the beginning of not even sure if I wanted to go on a online course with other actors now feeling like I'm ready to go out and audition and speak to class and directors and speak to directors and even create my own work. It's a major thing to me and I think the belief in my creativity as an artist rather than just a person who wants to be an actor the creative side of me has kind of excelled during the course and I kind of raring to go into the industry now,

When I look back at the beginning of the course and how I found it so hard to learn lines. In fact, all I thought about was lines. Whereas now, it's more about feelings and emotions and the words that are just in my subconscious mind and they just follow through.

So, I have come on leaps and bounds, and I've realized that acting's not just about words, it's about thoughts. And sometimes doing nothing has more of an impact on an audience drawing them in then saying 1,000 words. One word is more powerful than 1,000 words sometimes.

Hi, my name's Debbie Brooke and I did Brain Timoney's Ultimate Acting Course for a year.

I researched a lots of acting courses but I really wanted to study the method. And I knew that Brian studied with, looking at Konstantin Stanislavski, also Lee Strasberg. I knew that most actors, the actors that I admire, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson they all studied the method.

So I thought that was the best thing to do really. He unlocks a lot of emotions that you didn't realize you had. I found I was conditioned in my job, which was cabin crew.

So I'm always smiling at everybody, always happy and I've carry that on into my personal life. So he actually unlocked certain emotions in me so I could be angry. I could cry.

I could shout at people. It was certain things that I'd never really done. So, he was quite good actually, I'll give you that Brian, you were quite good.

We had a very, very close group. Some very, very strong friendships were made. It's an experience that was fabulous actually, I saw the confidence grow in so many people on the course, appearances changed.

It was really, really incredible. And after the showcase, agents came to watch us perform on stage and I was lucky enough to get one of the agents that came to watch us. I'm really hoping to follow down the drama route.

That's what I'd like to do more TV work as well. The words that actually resonate through my head all the time is Brian saying to me, "So Debbie, slow down, take your time." I even made a sweatshirt with these words on it at the end of the course for him, because it literally went into my brain and that's all I can remember. And even now when I'm acting before I go, I always think, "So Debbie, slow down, take your time." That was the thing I found hardest, but overcome.

I would highly recommend it. It was certainly a journey of self-discovery for me and quite life-changing to quite a few of us on the course. It was hard work and you have to work very, very hard but in turn, it's also very, very rewarding.

If you don't try, then you won't know. So if I hadn't have done that, I wouldn't be where I am now. I'd probably be still looking at that button wanting to hit it.

So hit the button, do it.

This course has changed my life completely. I've gone from being a yoga teacher, which was lovely, but it wasn't fulfilling me. It wasn't my passion to I'm gonna join this course, and then now I'm an actor with an agent.

My family and friends are like, oh my God, you're alive again. You, you again. It was the best thing I've ever done.

I'm Rachel. Um, I'm 35. I'm from Birmingham.

Last year I went onto Brian's acting course. It was just the most amazing, incredible year of my life, and I would do it again if I could. It was just brilliant.

All the people were amazing. Brian's classes were amazing, and the movement coach as well. So the movement coach called Gabriel, we were all like family, like miss you, love you.

Like, you just kind of bond and you're all there for each other. You do realize very quickly that everyone on Brian's course, there was only one that was a professional actor beforehand. Everyone else was just the same brandner and had always had a passion for it.

And I think because of the way Brian does the selection process, you end up with lovely people in the group that, that are there for you. I think some of the things now that I would've either not been able to do or just died of embarrassment now, just kind of, yeah, that's, you know, that's part of it. You know, you start getting out of your head and into the character's thoughts because there's a big part of what Brian teaches is to be in the thoughts of the character.

And it's amazing how quickly that process can work. But then also at the same time, when you're breaking down your own kind of conditioning and barriers and he gets you to take those impulses that maybe you didn't wanna take, then all of a sudden you're not going, I'm too embarrassed to do that. You're the character and that's what they do.

So it's not even a thought anymore. It kind of just retrains the way when you're doing all these crazy movements and you don't care what anyone's thinking and you're just feeling it. I think that really helps.

And then the mask work is kind of, it's like the craziest thing you've ever done. You put this mask on and you close your eyes and then you open your eyes, you look at yourself in the mirror, your body just goes with what the mask wants you to do. So all of a sudden you like your posture changes and the way you move changes.

And then, you know, then you're encouraged to, to speak if you want to and to interact with others in the mask. And it just frees you up completely and your movement is just bigger and wilder. And when you've done all the movement work and, and you're so free in that way as well, it kind of all comes together just to just give you loads of freedom and, and expression that you didn't really know that you had.

Show us a amazing, so we had our own scenes written for us, um, and we do, you know, our character and background work and work with our scene partner to see, you know, to see what we think, think of the situation and the circumstances. Um, and then the whole day was, you know, on location and there was a whole film crew there, um, just like a full on professional shoot day. So yeah, it was amazing.

Um, and it was the first time I'd been on a film set, so that was really cool. Everyone has commented like, oh my God, where did you get that show Rodden? And like, oh no, you can only get that through Brian's course.

It doesn't seem just like a showreel scene. And like everyone's made comments on that saying, God, that's such a great show reel. It looks like, you know, it's straight off tv.

We had, um, a showcase at the end of the course where Brian invites agents along to watch and then, you know, you have a chat with him afterwards and drink some champagne and send out your show to all these agents afterwards. So we did pretty well. So I think most of us have got our agents now.

I knew that he was the teacher that I wanted to go with. Everything he said I felt to be true. And I felt like he was very authentic in what he was saying.

He believed in it himself. It wasn't just to, you know, sell a course and the, the deep work that it takes, it just really like resonated with me. The method acting and the way that he did it.

But also when he gives you feedback, it's never nasty or critical, but it's always truthful. So I think you can really learn and grow from it rather than, you know, not knowing whether it's good or whether you are going on the wrong track. Like, he will tell you straight, he's not just gonna pass, go, oh yeah, it's good because you've paid.

He's gonna tell you if it's good or if you need, you know, to improve or tweak it. So I kind of liked that no nonsense approach, but done also in a creative and supportive way. It was the best, most incredible, amazing year of my life.

And if you are thinking about doing this and on the fence, do it. Do it now. You will not regret it.

Don't hesitate, don't hop back. It's just the best.

So I think probably when I did the ultimate, the, the year course, more so with that is then when you realize actually this isn't just about acting. It's kind of like a life changing experience for me. It felt, anyway, I felt like I perceived a lot of things differently in life.

My general outlook and everything changed. I'm Laura and uh, I've got three children, usual home life and stuff. But yeah, acting is what I really wanna do.

I suppose doing the year course probably opened up more for me because obviously it's, it was consistent for that year. I wasn't just sort of dipping in and out of it. It was a consistent 12 months of doing it.

And that's when you kind of think, yes, when I, as soon as I, I got into Brian's class, I know I can do this with the right training, I know I can do it. With Brian's sort of method that he uses you, you sort of have this tool if you like, to get you back into the character. So when you're in the box, you can go deeper into your character, into the mind of your character, into the life of your character, and you can feel it more.

It's a really strange experience when you're given a character. Once you do the box work with them, it's almost like you know the character so much better. Like the mask work.

I still, sometimes, although I don't have the physical mask, I still feel like I use that technique as a character. Sometimes when I perform, I forget about the audience. I don't, I don't think about them because that's, then when you come back to that fear of judgment.

So you almost need to forget the audience in order to, to fully be the character and not think about what anyone else is thinking. You just have to be them. First course I signed up for was three day class and as soon as I got in there and the class started, that's when I thought, this is, this is definitely where I, not necessarily where I want to be, but I felt like it's where I was meant to be.

And I remember getting home and thinking, no, this is, this is what I've gotta do. Even just that being in a class of like-minded people was freeing in itself before we'd even started sort of getting to the, the, the crux of it. It was that I found probably almost as enjoyable as the, as the actual class, everyone supports each other.

'cause I, there was a little bit of me that kind of, before I'd even done the first sort of class, you kind of think, oh, is it gonna be competitive? Is there gonna be a little bit, you know, of that sort of element in it? But no, I've never been on any of Brian's classes and felt that it's always so supportive.

Everyone wholeheartedly supports each other, which is brilliant and you become like a little family. Probably more so when I was younger. You maybe kind of think of acting more as like when you're watching TV as a charge, you think of it more as like, oh it's pretend, but actually when you do Brian's courses, you're actually like, no, it's not pretend because actually you are feeling that character's emotions.

So you are them. So there's no pretense in it. It's really real and truthful.

The classes are, this is just from my point of view, they're very challenging and you do feel under pressure, but that's a good thing. Although at the time it can seem a bit like, oh, I'm not sure I can do this. But actually Brian wants the best from you and knows what you can and can't do.

So the pressure you feel is only to bring out the best of you. Don't fear the challenge. 'cause at the end of it you'll be like, oh, okay, I see why he was getting me to do that.

That makes sense. Now I can, I can see as a teacher, he is so encouraging and very honest. That's what I love about him is the honesty as well.

So you know, he's gonna give you an honest opinion of what you're doing. You don't always want to be told, oh that was great, that was good. You need to also know some of the negative stuff because you need to know where you've gotta improve.

But that's done in an encouraging way. You can kind of take his feedback and go, oh, okay, I know what to do now to work on it. And if you don't understand you can say, I, you know, give me some guidance on what that means and then you can take that away and use it for next time.

The biggest thing I've learned is how to use your own experiences, your own feelings, your own emotions, and sort of find them within you and bring them out in the character as the character. We don't experience the same as everyone else. Everyone else has something different going on in their lives.

So I think for me, probably the hardest and most challenging is when you are a character and you have to go through something that you haven't personally experienced. So you have to almost find that and go places up here. 'cause you've gotta be true to the character.

Getting out of your own head and into the mind of a character is just for me, that's what I find the most liberating. That's what I love the most. He's quite selective with who he lets on his classes.

But that's in a good way, isn't it? Because you only wanna work with like-minded people. You don't wanna work with someone that's not serious about it.

Everyone is as serious as each other about doing it. No one's just there for the fun of it, if you like, everyone's got the dream and they, and they want it and they want the goal. Just book on a class and do it.

That's the first hurdle over, isn't it? Booking it and then get yourself through the door.

Everything has to be like you're saying it for the first time and some people, you know, will say one thing and then they'll stop and they won't speak again. And it's like you, in order to reflect reality, that key activ, that key, um, sort of method and activity within, within what he was teaching was definitely what was like for me, resounded the most. I was like, right, this is a, we're onto something here.

So my name is Tom fbe and I'm an actor During lockdown, I sort of tried to use the time after wasting a lot of it. I feel as though it would be a good use of my time to look through theory. So I started reading theory and looking at different books.

And then I came across Brian's book about method acting. That was the main thing that sort of pointed me in that direction, was reading that book and then yeah, sort of continuing from there. First day meeting Brian, it was very much just like, um, it's a no nonsense attitude.

I knew from day one it was like, this is gonna be very regimented. It's gonna be, you're not late. You're making the effort, you're putting the work in, and when you're here, you're here.

No messing around. And I think that's all I've enjoyed that I, I saw a man who wouldn't suffer, people that weren't gonna be honest with themselves, but he wasn't gonna put you down if you didn't know or you didn't understand. He would un he would allow you to, you know, ask the questions, but you gotta be honest with yourself if you, if you feel as there's certain things.

And I think that's my first impression was as a man who was very passionate about what he was teaching, which is all you can ask for. One of the activities we, we would do was, uh, a cold or hot shower. And it was almost like, you know, sitting back, just before you start the scene, you close your eyes and you imagine that you're in a hot shower.

And for me, for some reason something clicked in that, that it just allowed me to relax in the moment. And then when you start, you're coming from a place of just absolute relaxation with the acting industry. It's like the rejection and the graft that you have to do to compete with everyone.

From day one, he was drilling into like, you, if you want to do this properly, then you're gonna have to work and you're gonna have to get used to certain things like rejection or being honest with yourself or watching yourself on camera. For a lot of people that are on the fence, I tell them like, you will find out more about yourself and what you are capable of. 100% no matter who you are.

He if, if anything, and as long as you're honest with yourself, he will make you into a better act.
