ON DAY 1 we start work right away on how to enter the mind of the character. There is a simple process I will take you through that will allow you to quickly enter the characters world without you even realising it. You will be acting in scenes with a high degree of believably by the end of the day.
ON DAY 2 we will explore the Character Creation Box Exercise which will allow you to go deeper into the unconscious world of the character and Psychological Masks designed to unleash characters physicality.
ON DAY 3 we’re getting deep inside the acting process. You’ll be working on scenes, building characters from scratch, creating complex scenes that wring every last drop of truth from the text…and getting critiqued! Learn what you need to work on, to propel your acting forward.

I attended Brian’s Etude Xpress course in London for five days. The prospect of meeting a group of like-minded students keen on learning more about Method acting and the process called Etudes developed by Nikolai Demidov after such a long lockdown was more than a little exciting for me.
“We had already started to touch on the subject of Etudes and their benefits in training during Brian’s Lockdown acting intensive course ( which by the way are one of the prerequisites to complete before Brian will even consider you for one of his other courses, and then you have to go through an interview process before even being considered.) The online course is brilliant by the way and excellent value for money in my humble opinion.
Now I know what you might be thinking, that sounds like a lot of hassle just to get on an acting course! But you would be wrong, you see Brian is passionate about the art of acting and has no time for wannabes, lazy people, or time-wasters…. and neither should you if you are spending hard-earned money on an acting course with those kinds of people (anyway rant over, more about the course.)
Etudes teach the actor to take their in the moment perceptions and create a character or the embryo for a character and work it into a scene, you start with very short scenes and work up to bigger ones, eventual adding given circumstances etc. The results are instant and remarkable and interesting to perform and watch.
If the course was just to learn this extraordinary technique it would be worth it on it’s own, and although a lot of time was spent working on Etudes, it’s not the only things we learnt that week, oh no!
We also delved into Plastique’s, a psychophysical movement technique used by Eugene Vakhtangov, Psychological mask work, character box and gesture, voice work, sensory work…I could go on, but you get the picture.
Brian works on a personal level with every student and has a no-nonsense approach to his work that I really appreciate, he is extremely knowledgeable, you can tell he loves his job.
I would recommend this course to anyone who seriously interested in starting a path to acting professionally, or even to actors of any level looking to get to the next one.

Étude express has been a very enriching experience packed full of many valuable learning points. It was really great to be re-introduced to many of the exercises which are covered in Lockdown Acting Intensive and have the opportunity to practice these in person with the Master close by to guide us. Being in the studio with other creative individuals also encouraged me to really let go of the outside world and commit myself to each exercise.
Within the studio there was a relaxed atmosphere and during the études I felt zero judgment or pressure to ‘perform’ creating a pretty unique environment compared to previous acting classes I have taken where there is expectation to always impress spectators and fellow actors by overacting. Working in this type of environment has left me feeling confident in my ability to act more authentically by trusting my impulses and letting emotions come naturally.
I am still amazed by the creativity that arose from each étude we did over the week, especially those that we did as a group. It was really fascinating how with just a few lines of text, and no given prior context, we were able to create a group of characters with a very interesting history (and hopefully future). This has really opened my eyes to the wonderful world of études and I am excited to explore them further.
